Analytics

I use my own self-hosted Umami installation to understand how the site is used and what I should improve. Umami does not use cookies. It reports aggregate categories such as pages visited, referring site, browser, operating system, device type, screen size and approximate geographic area. Umami derives a pseudonymous value from technical information to count visitors and visits without storing an identifier in the browser.

The web request contains technical data such as an IP address and user agent. The infrastructure must process these to deliver the request and create aggregate statistics, but I do not use the analytics to identify individuals, build advertising profiles or track people across websites. My legal basis is my legitimate interest in maintaining and improving the site using limited, privacy-friendly analytics.

Umami runs on Fly.io, its data is stored by Supabase, and a Cloudflare service relays analytics requests on the site’s own domain. I keep analytics data while it remains useful for understanding use and operating the site, and delete data that is no longer needed. The analytics does not contain a name, email address or other direct identifier, so I normally cannot connect the statistics to you or locate a particular person’s analytics records.

Advertising

hjerpbakk.com uses Google AdSense to help fund the site. When an ad is requested or displayed, Google and Google’s advertising partners may process information such as IP address, browser and device information, approximate geographic area, ad impressions and interactions, and advertising choices. Google may use cookies, local storage and similar technologies where permitted.

Depending on consent, location and settings, Google may show personalised ads, non-personalised ads or limited ads. Google may act as an independent controller for some advertising processing and determines its own retention periods.

This page explains the processing; it does not change advertising or consent choices. Where a consent interface is presented, you can make your choices there. You can also use Google’s advertising controls and your browser’s cookie and site-data settings.

Hosting, recipients and international transfers

The site is delivered through GitHub Pages. GitHub, Cloudflare, Fly.io, Supabase and Google may process necessary technical information such as IP address, user agent, timestamps and security logs to deliver, protect and operate their parts of the service. They retain information according to their own policies and operational needs.

Some providers operate globally, so information may be processed outside Norway and the EEA. The providers state that they use valid transfer mechanisms and appropriate safeguards where required by law.

Creator and outbound links

This site links to my own apps and projects as well as external services such as GitHub, LinkedIn, app stores and other websites. When you follow an external link, the destination receives the normal technical information sent by your browser and applies its own privacy notice. A link or mention is not necessarily a paid endorsement; any commercial relationship should be disclosed where it appears.

Your rights

Under applicable data-protection law, and where the conditions are met, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability; object to processing based on legitimate interests; and withdraw consent without affecting processing that was lawful before withdrawal. You can also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority or your local supervisory authority.
